World news is news that pertains to a global situation, including issues of international politics and economics. World news can also refer to events that have a significant impact on the rest of the world, such as a natural disaster or a war. Traditionally, world news has been a major focus for newspapers and television networks. In modern times, many countries have their own news agencies that prepare hard news stories and other articles for distribution to their domestic audiences.
A world news reporter (also known as a foreign correspondent) is based in a city (often the capital) of a country and reports to the main news desk at a newspaper or television station. They typically file stories that cover a region, a country or sometimes an entire continent. They gather their material from local officials, residents and the media as well as events they directly witness. Correspondents typically have a network of colleagues in other cities and countries to exchange information and ideas.
World News Now is the name of an American morning news program broadcast on ABC stations Monday through Friday. It is a sister program to Good Morning America First Look, and shares the same production crew, studio set and many of the anchors. Unlike its morning counterpart, World News Now is not tape delayed. It airs live in two half-hour segments beginning at 2:00 a.m. Eastern Time and is transmitted in a continuous 60-minute loop until 8:00 a.m. when Good Morning America begins.
