The late-breaking program is designed to spotlight the most cutting-edge research conducted after the regular abstract submission deadline. The program will feature up to four abstracts selected through a peer-review process for an oral presentation at SLEEP 2025.
Each of these presentations will be given a 12-minute lecture with an additional 3 minutes for questions. Unlike the main conference program, late-breaking abstracts are not subject to a limit on abstract length and may include an optional appendix. However, authors should carefully weigh the additional time and cost required for an appendix versus the potential impact of their work on Congress attendees. Additionally, authors of late-breaking abstracts are expected to follow the same guidelines for preparing and submitting their manuscript for publication in a journal.
All late-breaking submissions are subject to the same review process as other abstracts and are evaluated on their scientific merit, breadth of interest, and quality of presentation by members of the Scientific Programme Committee and FEBS Press editorial staff. During the submission process, authors are asked to declare if their abstract is submitted on behalf of or in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry.
While any research can be presented at SLEEP, late-breaking submissions should provide new data with significant significance to the field. These data should be clinically relevant and have the potential to change primary care practice. Clinical trials and registries are especially sought after. Laboratory-based studies are typically not considered appropriate as late submissions unless they represent groundbreaking and substantive new information, and the presenting author is able to clearly articulate why the experiments were not completed by the regular abstract submission deadline.
